The Manifesto:

The journey through the church is one of spiritual and physical. Its not only a place to worship and pray but also a place to gather, reflect,to provoke creativity and to view the sky and observe the smallest of changes.

The light ,the air,the sound and the materials all suggest a higher space that dosent belong or attach.Such a space floats somewhere between the sky and the ground. It allows you to wander and offers no restrictions of access,Therefore,it has no up,down, side, above or below. All its elemnets come togethe to form one space .An in-between world.A vessel that floats in order to detach its occupnats and to become a place of desires, hopes and dreams.

Strategy:

Since the roof plays an important role in connecting the spaces in a traditional church,it will become the one element that will make up the building.

The roof changes in shape, height and geometry to accomodate the new church.A place that is no longer traditional in its use but  offers many functions/platforms within its blurred boundry. It becomes a building of semi-open spaces,an informal space to walk in and out of.The aisle/nave/transept/alter and the chapels find new meanings, they are no longer places arranged but spaces to be found.A series of closures are arranged in a non hierarchical, non linear way.The materiallity has to be in favour with the feeling it tries to provoke which is one of lightness and weightlessness.

Tactics:

Series of vaults connected in a way to creat different layers and density of spaces. Each vault is a structural element that is held by its own weight detached form the ground supported by the adjacent vault.

The connectivity between the vaults could be point to point or surface to surface according to the type of closure and amount of ligth and sound conductivity.

The curvature enables for different surface treatment. Some surfaces become walkable some to sit and some just to point to.

The collusion between certain vaults creat the in -between platforms where the activities of the church take place.
