Why Barcelona? And which block?

The project is not interested in Barcelona in a classical urban, contextual analysis sense- the white building remains completely self-referential and therefore it doesnt matter in an urbanistic sense which Barcelona block it occupies.

Barcelona gets interesting as site because of 2 different reasons- first it offers a very rigid, repetitive, background setting / the white ground/ which is for me the grid and second as a reference to Mies, and the famous Barcelona pavilion- another white building on white ground- as it is reconstructed and mainly experienced through photographs and media presence.

The specific block I choose is determined by these 2 factors. It is positioned in a relative middle position along the mirror achsis that is determined by the grand via and two significant round abouts. Espanya and Placa de Tetuan.

My project proposal operates in a constant reference to Mies, and I want it to be read like this but it also claims to become its own design position through the introduction of the contemporary building type notion of the building envelope.
