envelope and frames
I made same decisions the last couple of days - and after 2 TS tutorials with Toni and Wolf it all seems to make sense. In order to push the concept of the white building on white ground it all came down to the contour line that distinguishes the foreground from the background. The direct architectural translation of that contour line is the envelope - in my case the envelope as a contour line of the barcelona block. To really push the concept of the envelope in more than just one dimension/ only the architectural skin / also means to see the envelope as an alround performer. Thats why I decided to distribute my program - a gallery space with according service spaces - inside the skin of the envelope - inside its walls as well as inside its roofconstruction - the envelopes depth varies between 3m - up to 10m and its roofconstruction is not 100% clear yet. So it will get interesting how to design the roof construction without having all the cross-bracing going on inbetween the upper compression and lower tension deck - and how to stiffen the wall while at the same time making it inhabitable. Here's some first sketches of wall frames that provide stiffening effects by providing spaces and circulation. Am going to laser cut these frames soon as test- still feeling a bit sick ... had to quit the laser slots I had this week.
