A screen grab of image 1. Am making model to see if the planes can stand up by themselves.

Am now working on physical model of this image. At the moment, the surface is made up of planes that are striated in parts to allow for light and view for buidlings. elevation10.jpgThis surface has own folds - structural geometry. I am making sections from this in order to make the physcial model. So far the fragments are smaller scale buildings that you encounter as you enter the landscape. I want to develop this further in physical model.

Image 1:

Aim is to give perception of a longer, narrower street so that more, smaller scale buildingss can be introduced. The Palazzo appears further away although the distance hasnt changed.

The facades become more prominant.

Sections and street elevations to do,,,
I think that I can exercise more control over the cladding by setting it up in regards to a point of view so that for example, certain faces turn towards you. I like that a certain continuity can be read yet you have this protrusions that are trying to break away. I feel that I will have to further define the program and spaces by working through a series of horizontal plans.
Also another consideration is when the landscape is not supported by the existing facade. A single vertical element holds a lot of weight. So much to do, have only started.

Here one can see how the more successful areas are the smaller scale parts.
Am going to isolate moments within here and draw sections of a couple of type of profiles to imagine what cladding and how it would sit.

At the moment, the cladding is practically completely covering the facade. There are seams where light is allowed through and a view can be had from the windows. A regular set of sections/profiles describe the form of the overall cladding however when there is a more fragmented area, more profiles that are also more articulated appear.
The fragments are enclosures. The ground plane is also more articulated - creating a new edge and also changing in height. The cladding is less like a landscape when it simply covers large areas or stretches across a set of parallel profiles. The cladding is supposed to be planar so fabric is not the material for me (although this model may suggest it.) Folded metal plates with concrete plates are my preferred choice.
The cladding is like a pattern that will have its own seams and folds. More pics to follow.

Cladding fragment type 1.

Sections will be attached. Photos of working model will appear later.

True, this came before the work below but I havent been so sharp on the blogging recently. Do endeavour to put all recent work up soon.

composing part2

As mentioned in last blog, am now picking up on these Z, L, C sections and elevations and applying the operations that I formalised in first term to them. I am working on drawings now....Need to add layer upon layer of info that will change the landscape.

first attempt to create views with fragments. Am trying to imagine how the spaces are inhabitable and to what scale. At the moment, there are walkable surfaces that then become an enclosing wall. There are also fully enclosed volumes that are supported by surfaces.
However, I realise that the point of the fragment is to change the perception of the environment so have isolated what the workable fragment on site actually is (see next blog). The fragment is the enabler of a composition.
