Atlas of Illusionary Tectonics
Architecture has been seducing positions of
power for centuries, in order to realise dreams. Creating Iconic buildings that ultimately
suggest vision, a template for the future.
Today this has become tenuous through the overuse of 'iconic' projects
that are presented through the cityscape, all of which are competing for
attention, grabbing at our conscious and subconscious, trying to persuade,
manipulate and re-educate.
Architecture is the formwork in which we
spend our lives, it can shape perceptions and intellect. Our cityscape has become branded and defaced
through corporate capitalism, a three dimensional white noise, that bombards
with 'one liners' that has diminishing effects on its audience. In this society there is thrust for 'real' to
come into being, the diluted overused iconic to evaporate back into its
concentrated form.
Through this yearning for reality away from
the iconic, that has fuelled profit, demolition is required, an implosion
allowing for the phoenix principle. The
re-birth of the tectonics, through the creation of this exploitative guide,
future templates for the realisations of visions can emerge out of the white
noise that has engulfed the cityscape.
The iconic has become about the pursuit of status
through ambiguity, creating bifocal visions between society and the
icon [creator]. The icon becomes a
strategy determined to achieve status through contradiction and paradoxes,
aiming to achieve a mass following through exploiting our educated vision to
induce confusion.
