May 2009 Archives

I just got you comment - I will work on it tonight. I know I need to work on the formal languge - I really want them to be more silo like- continuing the brutalist aesthetic of the project - l but it is so dark. I am going to try and set up a setction to render tomorrow during the workshop. I will work more on the wells and try to blog again a bit later.
I am still working on trying t o make the light wells more 3d in order
break down the pattern. The spaces are large but narrow so I am trying
to allow for access to the LW from the different rooms while also
maintainig privacy.

Pattern of opening/ windows in the box LWs. The patterns differentiate depending on the how much light vs privacy is needed. This is not not done in a scientific fashion yet. I will laser cut some peices tomorrow morning to test the effects.
I am going to keep going on this one. I will post more later.

For the detailing of the LW's . I am looking at the way Melnikov varies the the opening in his buildings - different patterns and sizes depending on the what the program requires. e.g. the one meter spacing of the office plan vs the eight meter spacing of the surgical wards.
I know that the treatment of the boxy LWs vs the Silos will have to be very different.
I have started to work on a boxy LW with in the Generic Section. I am not sure if it is working yet but I will blog progress as soon as there is some think to see.

I am trying to find some garden precedents where the the gardens are incorporated into the building e.g LC's roof decks or Perault's deep court yard in the centre of the Biblioteque National. During yesterdays tutorial we discussed the gardens could be the moments where the regularity of the plan will be broken and larger public spaces will be created. Any other precedent suggestions would be appreciated.
These are the light wells that are in the (soon to be table model). I am working on detailing one - hopfully for tomorrow.
